We have a big title to our topic for today Online Marketing Work Terminology Definitions Dictionary that is seriously a mouth full of words would you not agree?

When I started out online I had no clue the terminology that members were using as I was trying to learn to build my own online business rather than have others go through what I was going through I decided to make a small dictionary and include it on my website to help any one out that wanted to make use of it.

Online Terminology

In order for you to become successful online then it is imperative that you understand all the words that are used when working online.

Most of the words are all phrases that are shortened to abbreviations and knowing what they all mean are going to help you before you march into training for an online business.

When I started with online marketing and people would use these abbreviations I would have to stop and go looking to find out what they stood for and the meaning talk about a total waste of time.

Here I am going to give you a list of terms that are used in the online business world to give you the full advantage over people who are coming into the training with no knowledge of these abbreviations or what they stand for.

SEO – Search Engine Optimization – is the process of choosing targeted keyword phrases related to a site, and ensuring that the site places well when those keyword phrases are part of a Web search.

Niche – Product or Service that you are going to promote on your website – selection needs to be a solution for helping people with a selection of products or service needed within a select group of individuals.

OEC – Online Entrepreneur Certification – training is a 5 Phase (50 lessons) series of courses walking you through the process of creating and growing a business within absolutely ANY niche that you want.

Bootcamp – Affiliate Bootcamp training is a 7 Phase (70 lessons) series of courses walking you through the process of creating and establishing a business in a niche related to the promotion of Wealthy Affiliate.

 

Plugin – These are add-ons to a website making them more customizable than just what a theme provides when you have selected one without something you wanted on it.

URL – Plainly put the URL of your website is the domain – what makes it the URL is the .com .net .org after the name.

ALT Text – HTML attribute that provides alternative text when non-textual elements, typically images, cannot be displayed.

Animated GIF – a graphic in the GIF89a file format that creates the effect of animation by rotating through a series of static images.

Autoresponder – a program that sends an automatic form response to incoming emails.

Bounce Rate – 1.) In web analytics, the percentage of visitors who leave after viewing a single page.2.) In email marketing, the percentage of emails in a campaign that are cannot be delivered.

Call to action (CTA) – the part of a marketing message that attempts to persuade a person to perform the desired action.

Click-through Rate (CTR) – The average number of click-throughs per hundred ad impressions, expressed as a percentage.

Conversion Rate – the percentage of visitors who take the desired action (purchase or sign up for programs).

Cost Per Action (CPA) – online advertising payment model in which payment is based solely on qualifying actions such as sales or registrations.

Cost Per Click (CPC) – the cost or cost-equivalent paid per click-through.

Cost Per Lead (CPL) – online advertising payment model in which payment is based on the number of qualifying leads generated.

CPM – cost per thousand impressions.

Deep Linking – linking to a web page other than a site’s home page. This is not the same as Back Links which link to the homepage of your website from inside pages of your website.

Description Tag – an HTML tag used by Web page authors to provide a description for search engine listings.

Domain Name – The title you give your website which is usually attached to the URL.

Forum – an online community where visitors may read and post topics of common interest these are always best to join finding information concerning your niche.

Guest Blogging – writing a blog post to be published on another blog as a temporary featured author usually linking it back to your own website the other person will request the same from you.

Keyword – a word used in a performing a search – researching keywords and phrases is the most important part of getting ranked on the search engines for your business to be successful.

META Tags – description of various aspects about a Web page using the keywords.

Pay Per Click (PPC) – online advertising payment model in which payment is based solely on qualifying click-throughs on your website taking the person to the advertiser’s page.

Search Engine – a program that indexes documents, then attempts to match documents relevant to the user’s search requests meaning Google, Bing, and Yahoo holding 99% of the searches.

Search Engine Submission – the act of submitting your URL to a search engine to make a search engine aware of a site or page.

This is by no means a complete list of words, abbreviations, or definitions but it is a good way to get a complete understanding the internet business has a slightly different language.

When I first started the training not knowing what any of these things were holding me back from completing tasks until I could go confirm what exactly they meant and what I needed to do.

Beginning a new journey into working online has been such an eye opening experience for myself and sharing the knowledge that I am amassing feels great.

Helping people is something I have done all my life giving them the chance to move forward and become the people they have always wanted to be.




In Closing

When people search the internet the results displayed to them are massive, to say the least finding a way to get to the top of the search engines where people can find your website is important, to say the least.

Terminology within the community of Wealthy Affiliates takes a little time to learn but once learned you can run with it and work yourself into a highly profitable business.

Remember when you succeed all the members in the community feel like they are succeeding as well it is just the way the owners of the company set it up to be.
